Ok, let's her it! Who is out there getting mostly killed all day in Battlefield 2?

And who is starting to want a "no aircraft" server? I get killed by the jet pilots more often then all else put together. If not for that I'd would now have at least 2 kills to one death on average. Certain pilots have learned the spawn points and just fly around bombing them endlessly. Most fights 2/3 of the times I die, its right after I spawn cause a jet was bombing right when I was spawning.

The one I was on today, everybody wanted to be in a plane or helo, half my side was sitting on the carrier deck getting whacked by artillery strikes and the lone enemy jet fighter rather then just head down to the well deck, form a fire team and ride out in a boat.

I got the air defense badge trying to keep them from getting strafed every minute or so, but my side lost by about 100 tickets because the troops spent most of their time not fighting or heading toward the fighting but just sitting there waiting for another cobra or blackhawk to spawn.

Got it 2 days ago, spent one day on ranked servers. Got the air defense and ground defense badges by manning the phalanx and an MG position. Shot down 14 jets and helos too in 2 rounds manning the carrier gun.

Don't be shy with your missiles, people. When you are on the gun you got endless ammo. When you get a lock, shoot off all eight of them. If you don't get him, he'll at least be too busy for a bit to strafe the carrier deck like what he was trying to do.

And when shooting from his rear try to aim a bit behind him, so the missile will have more space to turn into him. Head on at a distance shoot all the missiles and then lean on the gun trigger, cause he's coming right at you most likely. When a fixed AA is manned, the enemy pilots can see it on their map I think.

And when using that 2-shot AA position on the ground, don't sit in it and wait, they'll notice you. Lay next to it and wait, and then jump into the position to make the shot. And don't aim AA or AT missiles at anything till you are ready to fire, they get a warning beeper when they are being targeted. Makes em dodge too much.

All true.

See here for more Battlefield 2 aphorisms.

Few people have realized that by starting a LAN server, they can freely practice driving vehicles and aircraft, as well as gunnery skills. I used this to train myself in the piloting of the Blackhawk (whose skills translate well to the Cobra/Havok), as well as with the fixed-wing aircraft. If you can get a friend, you can even practice small-arms accuracy (sniping and such).

Several times I recieved mutinies before I had even done anything as the commander. I have encountered many commanders who actually fight on the line. While this would be good for a real-life company commander, a BF2 commander needs to have his eyes on the commander screen almost every second, so as to effectively coordinate his squads and allocate resources (arty strikes, UAVs, etc) effectively.

Squads are always a problem: about 2/3rds of the population of any given public server isn't in one. Without a squad, the commander cannot see you, nor can he respond to requests for support. Some classes, such as the Support Gunner and Medic, perform well only when surrounded by a squad.

Idiots. That's the word for most people in BF2. I've seen people climb ladders, set off the claymore that was placed at the top by a friendly sniper, then swear at the "n00b" that put it there. Friendly explosive devices are clearly visible with a large red skull-and-crossbones icon above them. These icons are visible at a distance, even through walls. I can't begin to count the number of people that have taken a tank, and immediately run over a friendly mine.

Then, there's the griefers. People who get their kicks only by causing misery to others. Spec Ops troops who place C4 on vehicles, wait for ANYONE to get in, and then blow it up. Engineers who deliberately place mines around valuable vehicles, forming an inescapable minefield. Anti-Tank troopers who, after failing to get to an aircraft fast enough, pump a rocket into the cockpit.

My BF2 experience wasn't exactly the best.

Haven't played BF2, played the original (and a handful of other style games, ranging from MMORPGs to massive CounterStrike games).

I hate them.

F(&%$-ing cowboys does not begin to describe the bulk of people on these servers. At least when I played with my friends we occassionally had plans and tactics.

You might meet one person who understands the concept of "cover."

But most people play the game in "If I'm in a big enough tank/helo/airplane they can't hurt me" mode.

OK, and I'm just not very good at these types of games either. My best work is still on the Close Combat series and X-Wing vs. TIE fighter.

And who can forget the CIWS gunners? The a$$hats who sit in their gun turrets, spraying everything and everyone that spawns on their flight deck...

Thank DICE for automatic kick/banning.

Strafing the spawn points with a jet? Would that make you a spawn camper? A game's supposed to be fun for everyone, so how about giving spawned soldiers a few seconds of invulnerability so they can run for cover?

Then that would make base assaults much harder than they already are.

Quote:

You're fighting hard to capture this last base, knowing that once you do, the enemy will be VERY hard-pressed to regain a foothold on the mainland. Your squad has managed to clear the west wall, and are moving in fast: in another minute or so the enemy will start respawning in force.

Once inside the wall, you manage to set up an impropmtu defense, holding back the rest of the defenders while the flag is captured.

An Assault class pops up in front of you: the enemy is respawning. Normally they would be easy meat out in the open, but your bullets are having no effect! Three rounds to the chest later, you're dead. Your squad dies soon after.

OK, I've never played BF-2. However, I have some ideas...I dunno if any of these are easily, if at all do-able, Im no waldo.

I say, mayby you can set it so that you have 1-5 seconds of invurnibility, and you can move, but not shoot. The duration is specified in a menu controlled by the host, cannot be modified after the game begins (to avoid cheapness). Typing in 0 for duration gives you normal spawn.

Just my 1.9 cents.

I finally got around to trying out the Chinese SAM armored vehicle today. I love that thing!

It's got 4 MGs, you just roll in and mow the infantry down.

And it has 4 SAMs with 2 reloads. In my first two rounds I blew at least 8 HELOs out of the sky, usually 2 kills per. Just blow off the SAMS and then lean on the gun trigger and nail them. I was even chasing the damaged ones that tried to hide behind the buildings to escape me to finish them off beofre they could repair!

Got myself the air defense ribbon for that. And the basic support badge too, since I was packing my RPK all that round.

Got to do a little one tank offensive too, In one run from the chinese home base to the docks in that long winding valley map, took out 2 APCs, a tank, couple of jeeps, about half a dozen infantry, and took the docks flag for China before the 2 helos and the jet finally hit me so they could take it back. (I didn't sit still, they kept missing me.)

No medal, but I got my name on one of the best score for the round things about half a dozen rounds in a row today. Pretty cool. And I'm not even a sergeant yet.
