That is correct, if a card says "can only be special summoned" then they cannot be normal summoned in any way. you must follow the rules reguarding speacial summons or meet the requirements of the summons that the cards states.

hope that helps

Then why is it that some of these cards also specify that they cannot be normal summoned or set, but others do not?

If you go strictly by the text on the card, if they only mention that they can only be special summoned under certain conditions, but nothing about normal summoning them (especially as others indicate that they cannot be normal summoned, and then specify special summoning conditions), it would seem that the case could be made that they can be normal summoned...

Kind of like how some of the newer toon monsters (Toon Gemini Elf for instance) do not have to have Toon World on the field to be summoned, whereas, IIRC, to summon a toon monster, Toon World had to be on the field...

Good question, One that has been brought up in many a turny, and the judgement is always the same "go buy the text of the individual card, not by cards in general"

Sounds like a copout on the part of the tourney judges to me...

Been working on improving my Zombie Madness deck over the last few days (what can I say? That vampire woman got me thinking about it)...and have now started on my fire and light decks...think the latter needs serious help right now...too many monsters (3/5ths of the deck), not enough good spell and trap cards...and the fire deck is weak because of the weak (initial) attacks of most of the fire monsters therein...

BTW...saw the listing a few months ago for some of the tournament winner decks from around the world...was really surprised by one...it only had SEVEN monsters...the rest of the 40 cards were in spell and traps...

Yep, That's when I pull out my sleaze deck. it has enough spell jammers and trap jammers to handle them.

If your building a Zombie deck, here are a few cards you should consider

Pyramid Turtle lvl 4/Earth/Zombie/Effect PGD-026

When this card is sent to the graveyard as a result of battle, special summon 1 zombie-type with a DEF of 2000 or less from your deck to the field

Spirit Reaper lvl 3 Dark/Zombie/Effect PGD-76

This monster cannot be destroyed in battle

Patrician of Darkness lvl 5 Dark/Zombie/Effect

as long as this card remains face up on the field. you control your opponents attack targets.

Just to name a few

The deck started with the Zombie Madness structure deck, so 3 Pyramid Turtles are already a part of it...

I also added a Spirit Reaper...thinking of adding a Patrician of Darkness in there, but I'm having trouble deciding if I want to remove another monster...I might switch out the Dark Dust Spirit for one though...

Put in Patrician of Darkness without a doubt. controling your opponet attacks is very helpful. and since it's defense is low enough to fall under the Pyramid Turtles effect, their pretty easy to get out. as is Spirit Reapers. And if you can those two on the feild at the same time. you have a very effect wall for a few rounds.

Already done...now, I just have to find an appropriate deck box and sleeves for the cards for this deck...

I was also working on my Blaze of Destruction deck (fire type monsters) this past weekend...might not be too powerful just in the looking, but seems to have some potential...

Can't wait for the next structure deck...all earth type and rock monsters from what I understand...might be able to make use of magnet warriors and Valkyrion...

Well...for the fire deck, I've done some switchouts to put a Flamer Ruler and a The Thing in the Crater in the deck...not sure if they'll be effective, but maybe we'll see...

Also, the water deck was shown on last night's GX episode...

I've also bought some new three packs of cards today...ended up getting the following as the best of the lot: Ultra Rare Exodia head, Ultra Rare Magic Jammer, Ultra Rare Perfect Machine King, Secret Rare Kuriboh...and to add to my soon to be created Elemental Hero deck...

the Ultra Rare Elemental Hero Thunder Giant!

I've actually started putting together this deck...there's one I'm using for an example in a Yu Gi Oh magazine, but going my own way with it...

Oh, and I was digging back through my pile of cards today too...found a super rare Reload that I had forgotten that I had...

Just got my first few packs of Shadow of Infinity, and the GX starter deck, today...

From the starter deck, I got an ultra rare Sparkman (this was the special edition version of the deck, with a variant Sparkman and a training DVD) and an ultra rare Elemental Hero Bladedge...

from SoI, I got a couple of Hero Kids, a couple of E Hero Neo Bubbleman and a few copies of Hero Heart (spell card) and the Super Junior Confrontation and Miracle Kids trap cards...

Also from SoI, I obtained a super rare Demise, King of Armageddon, ritual fiend monster; an ultimate rare Memory Crusher; an ultimate rare Karma Cut trap card and the ultra rare Sacred Beast Uria, Lord of Searing Flames...

That just leaves Tempest, Rampart Blaster, Wildedge, and the one from the Duel Academy game to get at this time to finish my collection of Elemental Heroes, IIRC...

Ok, make that just Wildedge and Steam Healer until Enemy of Justice comes out to complete my E-Hero collection...got a rare Rampart Blaster from a Jaden booster pack and managed to pull and ultra rare Tempest from a pack of Elemental Energy last night....

Well, ever since this post, almost 6 years ago, I have made a deck that has won a couple of championships. It's a simple stall deck based on the Final Countdown magic card, that has a unique to gain health points, one time i got up to 145.000, and dodge attacks. It is by far the best deck I have ever created.
