In the beginning it was far away but now as the date of my eye surgery actually comes close i try to appear calm but have to admit that i start getting worried.
Has anybody of you went through an eye surgery (especially an "Vitrektomy")?

My father had eye surgery on both eyes two years ago and in less than a month he was working again. He's a watchmaker... No complains from him since then.

Grandmother had cataract replacement surgery done in the late 80s. Still going fine on the plastic lenses. And doesn't need glasses anymore either.

Dad's getting the same surgery in a couple years (cataract is just starting to form).

Who needs lasik? Just get the whole lense replaced!

No idea what your surgery is, though, sorry.

I feared that you'll ask this question

*leaves to find a vocabulary*

*sends the book to a sightseeing flight around the kitchen*

Well, since he works with magnifying glass most of the time he collected quite a few diopters that needed to be removed and with age the eyes lose the ability to accomodate properly, but I'm not sure what exactly was done. I'll ask for details when I see him.

My surgery?
The liquid in my left eye will be sucked out and replaced by another, artificial, liquid to get all the dead cells out that i got from an inflammation o the blood essels behind this eye!

I just went through PHASIK ICL, that I had a lens placed in both eyes under the cornna. It is similar to what they do for cataphrach surgery and so now I can see 20/15 in both eyes.

It was worrisome but things went well enough and other then getting a bit fidgetty during the surgery it was over with in less then an hour and half for each eye spaced out over two week time frame. So two surgeries and now I can see much better.

Just stay calm and don't let the little nagging worry voices get to you. things will be okay.

I've had six. I was born with strabismus/amblyopia (cross eye/lazy eye) that didn't respond to exercise or glasses with prisms, and by the time I was two lead to blindness in the lazy eye and damage to the good eye. The first four I don't remember because I was too young, all I know is that the surgeon removes some of the muscle on the side that isn't pulling like it should. The fifth and sixth surgeries involved a vitrektomy to remove remaining scar tissue and bits of the vitreous fluid that had been broken during surgery and hardened, causing floaters and blind spots. I know I was scared witless all six times but there really isn't anything to worry about. It's an outpatient surgery, it takes about fifteen minutes, and then you are out of the hospital or surgery center an hour later once the nurses make sure there were no complications. Complications are rare and usually mild, if anything happens it is more likely to be from anesthesia then the surgery itself. It's pretty painless, the IV I had for the anesthesia (usually they just use gas but I don't react well to anesthesia) hurt more then my eyes. You are tired and nauseous for only the day of the surgery, sometimes less, and sensitive to light for about a week. Make sure you have someone to drive you home, time off work the day of and after the surgery just in case, and really good sunglasses and you'll be fine.

Never had eye surgery...no money nor insurance. Best of luck though.

On a less helpful note, doctors are terrifying for me. White coats, face masks...*Shiver*.

However you are probably a better and braver man than I (Course most are), so you should be swell.

Thanks Emmy! As you are through six surgeries i will stand my (hopefully) single one like a man Laughing

Kalo, doctors aren't that bad!!! 8)
This isn't my first surgery but it is the first concerning my eyes.
I think even a brain surgery wouldn't worry me that much!!!

So finally i got through my eye surgery last Monday!
Everything seems fine till now but because of my eye being still wide due to the medicines i can't see clear with it yet.
Thanks for you all for giving me "psychological support"!
