slowly pacing the famliar path to his favorite watering hole, the warrior notices things are no longer so familiar after months on the periphery chasing pirates.

Old familiar Lurch is still there, guarding the entrace to Mordel's Bar and Grill as ussual

Respectfully bowing to Lurch after hading his trusty needle gun, and dagger the old warrior acknowledges the stoic but easygoing bouncer.

Lurch acknowledges with his ussual non-challant grunt, eyes becoming slits pushing his memory of the strange but yet familiar face. Lurch does not forget a face.

The old warrior enters, thirsty and looking forward to Chihawk's repertoire of mixed drinks he heads directly to the bar....

Locked in savage combat with his age old nemesis, the tall Federated Suns Duke known as Jarylan (or Joe, depending), stands off to the side of the Bar and Grill. His long red-brown hair is peppered with gray near his temples. He fights, and contorts, grunting with exertion. But after a moment, the battle is lost.

"DAMN YOU PINKY!"

He sighs in frustration as his last yellow man is devoured. He backs up slightly, and levels a hand at the machine.

"You may have won this round, but someday I will defeat you, Pac-Man!"

With that brief outburst aside, he kneels down, and opens up the machine, taking out the wooden box that collects the demis and other currency from bar patrons. Behind is a rack of board connectors, but only a single board fills the top one. Jarylan looks up at Sir Henry.

"The machine is more or less done, sir. The top board holds the `dominant` program, which is about to be changed to a menu program. The other boards hold the games. Given enough idle time, the machine reverts back to the dominant program. This way, we get more games out of less floor space, and have an alternative to the old pinball machine."

After speaking, he swaps the top board for one nearby, putting the former top board beneath it, and another beneath that.

"I designed the thing with a basic MAME architecture, but it uses hardware instead of software to run the games. Feels more..." He searches for the right word.

"Feels more `authentic` to me that way. There is an `impostor board` though, in the back room that you can just plug a ROM chip into for easy installation. Other than that concession, making the boards is generally a bit time consuming. As for the hardware, this thing should run just about anything. I prefer mostly classics, but I doubt all the kids would understand."

He chuckles to himself at the kids remark, considering several members of the bar no doubt still see him in a similar way. After a bit he closes up the machine, and powers it back on. It boots to a simple menu with two boxes, which can be alternately highlighted with one of the joysticks. Right now, it just has Space Invaders and Pac-Man.

"Any requests for new games? The machine can hold seven programs. The menu, of course, and six games. Past that, we have to find some schedule for rotation, or make another machine."

Great! Thanks Joe.

If we add two more buttons on the sides, we could add a Video Pinball Machine...

It would save maintenance on the Pinball machine.... Razz

Kalo shrugs a bit, taking a sip from his glass.

The Duke grins, pulling out a box of mechanical and electronic components and some tools to work on the upgrades. "Well, Kalo, the arenas are right around the corner, if you prefer. I am a little attached to life, myself, and prefer not to risk it for mere entertainment value. After all, there's a time an a place for everything, and it's called college."
