Overview:
    Five years after the introduction of the PLG-1N Pillager, a new model of this ?Mech began
    appearing on the field. Whereas the original model was a nightmarish terror on the urban
    battlefield, it was found to fare less well on more open ground. None of its weapons could
    reach out more than 270 meters, and it was only able to make 54 kph at top speed. This fatal
    combination cost more than one Pillager a battle. Looking to make a more general combat
    model, the PLG-1Z was developed.

Capabilities:
    Its extremely large type 20 autocannon and their ammo were replaced with smaller, but longer
    ranged, type 10 autocannon. Two tons of ammunition for each allows the MechWarrior to have
    more than 3 minutes of continual fire with these weapons. The medium laser mounted in the
    right arm was moved to the left and a heavy laser was mounted in its place in the right arm.
    As the short range missile pack was removed to make room for the heavy laser, the head
    mounted medium laser was moved from a rear to a forward facing. Defensively, the 1Z Pillager
    was also improved with two full tons of additional armor added to the design.
    
    Although a larger engine could not be mounted on the design, an additional jump jet was
    added to allow the ?Mech to make leaps of up to 90 meters. This increased the machine?s
    mobility by half again over its older predescessor.

Deployment:
    The PLG-1Z was assigned to several major assault units where it quickly gained a superb
    reputation for its hard hitting firepower. Soon, every assault unit was clamoring for these
    BattleMechs.

Variants:
    The PLG-1Z Pillager quickly became a favorite of assault units, but its time had not truly
    come. Nearly 15 years later, the advanced PLG-3Z model began rolling off the production
    lines, far surpassing the 1Z?s abilities, and cementing the Pillager in history.
