5.0 Internal Structure: Standard Tracked

13.0 Engine: 200 Fusion (4/6 speed)

0.0 Heat Sinks: 10 Standard

2.5 Control Components: Standard

7.5 Armor Factor: 120 pts Standard (48-24/24-24)

18.0 Heavy Gauss Rifle -- Front
4.0 Ammo (HGR) -- Body

--------------------------------------------

OVERVIEW:
The Katherine, originally called Mjolnir, was to have been a heavy tank, based on the Po that was seen as the Lyrans pulled from the Chaos March conflict years ago. Ongoing research, after a handful of Pos were purchased via mercenaries and reverse-engineered, however, left many failures in its wake. At the heart of the issue was that, rather than use a simple Autocannon, the Mjolnir was to sport the new Heavy Gauss Rifle, in hopes of introducing a powerful, if not cheap, main battle tank.

Testing showed many a problem with the early designs. The Defiance Hammerfist Heavy Gauss Rifle was in early testing stages, and sometimes failed to fire, as the engaging process drained the ICE engine dry of power, shutting the tank down. Larger engines and power amplifiers were tried, but even these couldn't keep up with the massive power drain. A fusion engine was finally attempted and found successful, but still problematic. The turret mount then came into notice, as turning the vehicle could simply tip it over, due to weight imbalances, and the force of firing a projectile was enough to flip the tank over.

Truly, the Mjlnir was destined for the scrap heap, were it not for the FedCom civil war. Needing every weapon available, Katherine personally gave a greenlight for some wild R&D developments. One request from above was for a dedicated Mech-hunter, able to out-range and out-punch anything in the FedSuns arsenal, but at a fraction of the cost. Having finally stumbled onto the last feature needed, Hesperus II engineers turned their shoestring budget project into a mech-hunter, rather than a line tank, and found success.

Sadly, the civil war ended before production could be started. In the honor of their fallen Archon Princess, engineers renamed the tank the Katherine, a last-minute thumb to the eye of the victors of the war. Production has been extremely limited, as the new Archon's hatred for Katherine, herself, cause the design to barely tolerated, as well as the extreme shortage of such a difficult to produce main gun.

CAPABILITIES:
The Katherine is, in fact, a truly average machine, fully built around the main weapon. Somewhat slow for a medium tank, and featuring an expensive Fusion engine, without so much as a machine gun for a secondary weapon and having a mere sixteen shots for its main gun, the Katherine is well and truly a defensive machine, not to be sent into the field of battle away from home. Its simply too vulnerable to troop-based or vehicular counterattacks, despite having an astonishing ammount of firepower. Against enemy mechs, however, there's simply no tank of the same tonnage that can compete.

DEPLOYMENT:
A full Batallion of Katherines are found on Hesperus II, equating fully half of the production thusfar. Others are scattered about in regions that were staunchly pro-Katherine during the civil war, and seem to have been purchased at least as much in her honor as for their battlefield ability. Ongoing demands stay decent, but not high, in this time of relative peace. The production run is slated for a full two regiments, but it is unknown, at this time, if the new regent will continue production beyond these numbers, or if the Katherine will soon go the way of her namesake.

to help out od here.

as for parts and location, i choose those parts used on the Patton. and the Pitban 200 is produced on the same planet as Pitban 320 XL used in the Salamander, so shipments of engines was already proceding between the systems.

Been meaning to add all the extra info, but I plumb forgot. Mucho appreciation, Vagabond, and pretty much what I'd intended, part wise.

What *I* wanna know is how you can get the format looking proper like that? Is there a program, or is that an HTML file, or what?

Whatever it is, I want it.

Use the PRE code

Just cut and paste between (pre) and (/pre) (change the ( )to < >) you will have to adjust the font size with HTML code but that is about it.

Hoped that helped

You know.

I'm an English major.

I know what each of these words mean on their own. But when you put them together?

What the *heck* did any of that mean?

BAD OLD DOG! BAD! HOW DARE YOU TAKE MY FAVORITE TANK AND PUT A FUSION ENGINE ON IT! HOW DARE YOU! I'm hurt. I'm really really hurt. I feel betrayed and hated and unloved.

How COULD YOU?! After the hours you painfully explained to me why fusion engines on vehicles are bad, how could you take the Po, of all vehicles, the only good one in 3058, and DO THIS TO IT!

I'M NEVER SPEAKING TO YOU AGAIN.

WAAAAAAH!

Raven, running off crying. Old Dog gets -10 Feathers for this monstrosity.

Oh, believe me, it hurt me, too.

I sat down, spent about an hour, hammering out this gorgeous, 60 ton Lyran tank with a Heavy Gauss, ICE engine, all kinds of bad news.

Then, I leafed through the book, because I suddenly remembered something about not being able to turret-mount it.

And, there it was, a note that the gun doesn't work unless it has a fusion engine.

UGH!

So, went back to the board. Wound up being able to work it a full ten tons lighter, and nothing even remotely like it's 'Father', the Po.

So, not the same thing! At all! Even remotely! It's a medium tank, no turret, Fusion instead of ICE ... it's dripping with Steiner juice...

C'mn, gimmie a break! I'm tryin', here...

You'll have to eat 100 doggie bags in penance you know.

See, this is an example of why some weapons were just never meant to be. Why don't you post something in the 60 ton range with an AC/20 or a pair of Gauss Rifles (the Demolisher Mk IV or something), I'm sure everyone here will appreciate those much more then the monstrosity above.

And frankly i don't think its very Lyran at all.. its to... too... I don't know... not lyran. Sure it has a lyran weapon. Sure it has a fusion engine (a la Rommel/patton tanks) but it just ISN'T if you know what I mean.

I can't explain it. It feels like a hodgepodge... like something was wrong.

Most Lyran units fielding a HGR would be larger as the main Lyran tanks are 70-80. Reminds me of a Jadgpanther. Raven was right about the not being Lyran part. Its a medium tank and Lyrans use mostly very heavy or very light.

With a name like "Kathrine" It will most likeley be shot all over the field. (Sorry I couldnt stand her at all) But I do agree it dosent feel like a Lyran design. Its right in that all purpose weight class that they tend to stayaway from. On top of that the Heavygauss is just a lame weapon (my opinion I know)

The Lyrans use light tanks for their speed. 4/6 isnt enough. Mabey if you gave it a larger engine and changed the main gun to a regular Gauss. The Heavy Gauss has too many drawbacks unless you are fast or large.
